Program and Project Management

20%

This is the heaviest domain on the exam at 20% — roughly one question in five. It covers how construction projects are organized and led: the five project phases (Conception, Design, Procurement, Construction, Post-Construction), the delivery methods that determine who carries which risk, and the CM's role within each.

Cost Management

10%

Cost Management is 10% of the exam and the most formula-driven domain after scheduling. Earned Value Management appears constantly: given BAC, EV, PV, and AC, you compute variances and indices and interpret them. The arithmetic is simple — the exam tests whether you know which formula answers which question and what the sign convention means.

Time Management

10%

Time Management is 10% of the exam and centers on the Critical Path Method. You will fill in activity boxes: forward pass for early dates, backward pass for late dates, then total and free float. The exam uses the day-one convention — the first day of an activity is day 1, so EF = ES + Duration − 1 and LS = LF − Duration + 1.

Contract Administration

10%

Contract Administration is 10% of the exam and covers the paper machinery that keeps a project defensible: RFIs, submittals, change management, notice, claims, and closeout. The exam's recurring theme is discipline — the contract's procedures exist to be followed, and skipping them has consequences.

Quality Management

10%

Quality Management is 10% of the exam. The foundational distinction is QA versus QC: quality assurance is process-oriented — the systems and procedures that give confidence quality will be achieved — while quality control is product-oriented inspection and testing that detects whether it was. The Quality Management Plan is written in pre-construction, because systems established after work begins arrive too late.

Safety Management

10%

Safety Management is 10% of the exam and mixes OSHA thresholds with a legal doctrine the exam cares deeply about: role clarity. Each employer is responsible for its own employees. The contractor runs site safety for its forces; a CM who directs safety means and methods can create an assumed duty — and liability — it did not contract for.

Risk Management

Risk Management is 10% of the exam and rests on one allocation principle: assign each risk to the party best able to manage it. Contracts that dump uncontrollable risks — design errors, unforeseeable conditions — onto the contractor breed claims and premiums instead of protection.

Professional Practice

10%

Professional Practice is 10% of the exam and covers the profession itself: ethics, fiduciary duty, standard of care, legal obligations, and the credential's own institutions. It is the domain where the exam asks not what you would build, but what kind of professional you are.

Sustainability

5%

Sustainability is 5% of the exam, blending green-building ratings with the environmental compliance that governs every jobsite. LEED is the flagship: administered by USGBC with certification through GBCI, with thresholds worth memorizing — Certified 40, Silver 50, Gold 60, Platinum 80. LEED work starts early; a team that waits for closeout to chase credits will impede move-in.

Technology

5%

Technology is 5% of the exam and centers on information: modeling it, sharing it, and acting on it. BIM leads — a digital model of a facility's physical and functional characteristics. The dimensions extend it: 4D links schedule, 5D links cost. Level of Development marks maturity: LOD 350 coordinates across systems, 400 is fabrication-ready, 500 is as-built.
